Traditional
Traditional and classic photography is the same as what the parents of many couples have taken from their weddings. These simple photos may not be very creative; they’re typically taken at eye level and posed. However, they’re able to stand through the years. “These photos will persevere throughout the years and won’t go out of style,” Kershner states. “It’s very simplistic, and nothing crazy, but they still look good 50 to 60 years later.”
Photojournalistic
Documentary-style and candid photos can be many of the most emotional and unforgettable images. This is the reason why so many photographers have embraced a photojournalistic approach. The photographers approach the wedding day as if it were a news or feature story. They allow the wedding day to unfold naturally and then capture the moment as it unfolds.
Kershner, who wears this method frequently during the course of her day, says it to be a flier off the wall. “At the beginning of the day, I’m more classic and natural with light direction; I’m helping the couple because they’re nervous and I want them to feel comfortable,” she states. “As soon as the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception hit, I’m just capturing things as they unfold.”
Editorial
On the opposite end, on the other hand, images that are editorial are much more formal similar to a fashion magazine. This type of photography is less common within the wedding photography industry. However, Kershner claims that many photographers have perfected the style. They’ve boosted their business by focusing on this type of photography.
“In most cases, the couple goes into wedding planning knowing they want this,” she adds. “They have different expectations of photos of their wedding. The couple wants it to look similar to a photoshoot, but that has a luxury, high-end feeling.”
Dark and Moody
The dark and moody photographs are exactly as they seem: dark, moody intense. In this kind of style, photographer wants to capture the couple using lines of shadows or harsh lines to make unique and interesting patterns or even lighting. “This style includes dark editing and dark shooting,” Kershner explains. “Over the last couple of years, a lot of couples have been drawn to this style. This is what magazines are displaying.”
Aerial
It’s unlikely that you’d want your wedding day to be captured by drone photography, but aerial photos are an excellent addition that many photographers are now offering. Aerial photography is great for capturing photo sessions, wedding departures, and, if the ceremony is outside, for a reception.
